Madame Butterfly
By Giacomo Puccini

Casting two children, 4-5 years of age to play Butterfly’s child. Looking for children who are small for their age, with good focus and concentration. Children will alternate performances. Both boys and girls are encouraged to apply.

Positions are volunteer.
Rehearsals begin July 12, 2017.
Show performs August 5, 6 matinee, 9, 12, 13 matinee 16, 18, 19, 2017 for 8 performances.

Auditions are by interview.

Seattle Opera Chorus

The Seattle Opera Chorus is a part time professional chorus. Each chorister is affiliated with the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA).

The next Open Chorus Auditions will take place in November 2018. Check this website after September 1, 2018 for further instructions on how to apply. Auditions must be scheduled in advance and will be by invitation only. Only residents of Seattle and/or the greater Seattle metropolitan area are eligible to sing in the Seattle Opera Chorus.

Audition Requirements
Candidates should prepare and memorize three selections in three different languages, one of which must be in Italian. Two selections must be opera arias. The remaining selection may be an art song or an oratorio excerpt. An accompanist will be provided for the use of singers who do not provide their own.

How Your Audition Will Be Judged
Auditions are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • a demonstrated level of musicianship with attention to correct pitch, rhythm, dynamics, phrasing, and interpretation
  • solid vocal technique
  • appropriate diction in the common operatic languages
  • large enough sound to carry in the theater
  • an appropriate choral sound according to the artistic standard set by the General Director
  • the ability to blend the voice
  • stage presence
  • dramatic sensibility
  • ability to carry out basic theatrical movement (e.g. climbing stairs, kneeling, standing on a raked stage, light dance movements etc.).

 

Auditions for The Youth Opera Project

June 7 & 10, 2017 | Seattle Opera, 200 N. Terry Ave., Seattle, WA 98109

Seattle Opera's youth programs provide a safe environment in which everyone can participate and gain confidence in their performance skills and experience. Participants will have the opportunity to sing various repertoire and in multiple languages.

Placement auditions will be held at Seattle Opera's Rehearsal Studios at 200 Terry Ave N.,located in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood.  Enter through the yellow door on Terry Ave N (between John St and Thomas St).

Auditions last approximately 10 minutes. You will be asked to select a specific day and time to audition below, on either Wednesday, June 7 between 4:00 PM–9:00 PM or Saturday, June 10 between 11:00 AM–4:00 PM. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled placement audition. 

The Youth Opera Project

The Youth Opera Project accepts everyone ages 7–18, regardless of skill level or ability to pay. No prior experience is necessary.

Singers should prepare one of the following songs for their Placement Audition (sung a capella, without accompaniment):

  • Happy Birthday
  • Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Additionally, you have the option to sing a short song of your choice.

Teen Vocal Studio

Teen Vocal Studio is a pre-college training program for serious teen singers in grades 9-12. Prior singing experience is recommended. Financial assistance is available.

Singers should prepare the following for their Placement Audition (sung a capella, without accompaniment):

  • One folk song in English
  • Optional: One song in another language, if you have one already prepared
