A Seattle Opera Premiere!

ROLLICKING FARCE. Discover the final madcap comedy from the playful and prolific composer of The Barber of Seville and The Italian Girl in Algiers. A notorious skirt-chaser and his merry-making minions scheme their way into a medieval French castle by means of outrageous disguises, crazy coincidences, and narrow escapes. Plans are foiled, wine cellars are raided, and all is forgiven as the lusty Count presides over the chaos. Our bright, all-new production will feature an exaggerated “Pythonesque” visual style, including whimsical animations and kaleidoscopic colors to start the season with a bang.

By Engelbert Humperdinck

UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE. Not seen at Seattle Opera for 23 years, Humperdinck's impressive adaptation of the iconic Grimm story has been an international favorite since its premiere. With refreshing humor and Wagnerian orchestration, this atmospheric fable explores universal themes of poverty, peril, and bravery, culminating in happiness for all – save for one very bad witch! Laurent Pelly's "astonishing” (WhatsOnStage) production celebrates the richness of imagination and offers entertaining commentary on the pitfalls of consumerism in the modern world. Provocative, dreamy, and melodious, it’s unlike any fairytale you’ve ever seen.

By Giuseppe Verdi

IRRESISTIBLE CLASSIC. Verdi's passionate portrait of a worldly courtesan forced by bourgeois society to give up the man of her dreams enthralls with a wide range of moods packed into a tautly-constructed story. One of the most perfect scores in opera elevates the timeless tale of moral hypocrisy and selfless sacrifice. Peter Konwitschny's "five star" (Sunday Telegraph) production emphasizes the elegant music and emotional story with clean, simple visuals and striking sophistication. A milestone in opera history - sure to melt the coldest heart.

By Leoš Janáček

CAPTIVATING DRAMA. In this romantic tragedy overflowing with immediately accessible, powerfully original music inspired by Slavic folk songs, the celebrated Czech composer weaves a dreamlike, visceral story of isolation and provincial oppression. Sheltered Katya longs to be free of her dull arranged marriage and dreary home life. Recently awakened to true love, she remains dominated by a monstrous mother-in-law. Can Katya’s fragile world survive when her pent-up passions finally burst forth? Acclaimed Australian director Patrick Nolan’s all-new production dives deep into the emotional turbulence lurking beneath the surface of small town respectability.

COLORFUL FANTASY. Mozart’s utterly unique extravaganza blends myth, magic, and a remarkable variety of wonderful music to deliver its life-affirming message: love conquers all. A handsome prince and his comical sidekick are given enchanted musical instruments and tasked with rescuing the Queen of the Night’s daughter from a mysterious group of priests. Undergoing trials of virtue, discretion, and charity, they realize that all may not be as it seems in this magical land. Award-winning costumes from the fabulous Zandra Rhodes (The Pearl Fishers) add to the many delights of one of the most fantastic entertainments ever created.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I GET FREE PARKING?

When you order a 5-opera package by July 15, 2016, you are eligible for free parking in Fifth Avenue Garage all season! If you buy online, you will be prompted to add free parking as part of the checkout process.  If you order by phone or in person, your Audience Services Representative will walk you through the process.

HOW DO I USE PAYMENT PLANS?

Convenient automatic payment plans allow you to spread your payments over several months, an option popular with our subscribers paying by credit card. It's flexible and free—no interest or additional service charges.

Payment plans are available when you order online, by phone, by mail, or in person at our 1020 John Street, Seattle office. At a minimum, your payment today must include the $15 service fee. Payment plans may only be set up using a credit or debit card. We accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. We are only able to accept one credit card for this payment. The card must be valid through one month past the last payment scheduled. Your final payment must be scheduled at least two weeks prior to the start of the first opera in your season ticket package.

When you order online, the checkout page will offer several convenient payment plan options that automatically divide your total into monthly installments. You may contact Audience Services at 206.389.7676 or tickets@seattleopera.org to change the arrangements of your payment plan at any time as long as your final payment is scheduled at least two weeks prior to the start of the first opera in your subscription. With our convenient automatic payment plan there is no need to call or send back an invoice to us; your card will automatically be charged on the days set up for the payment plan.

If you select a payment plan, your season tickets will be mailed in May or after your final payment is made, whichever is later.

MY SCHEDULE CHANGES A LOT. SHOULD I STILL BUY SEASON TICKETS?

YES! Season ticket holders can exchange their tickets for any other performance of the same opera with no fees. Just call us or request an exchange online any time after you receive your tickets and before 4 p.m. on the day of your performance (or 4 p.m. on Saturdays for Sunday matinees). There are no fees for ticket exchanges; however, upgrade charges may apply if you are changing to a more expensive day of the week or seat location.

If you already know you cannot make one of the dates in your series, you may request an exchange at the same time you buy your 2016/17 subscription. After you purchase, simply visit our 2016/17 Early Exchanges page and fill out the online form for each opera whose date you wish to change.

HOW MUCH WILL I SAVE?

When you purchase more than one performance at a time through one of our season ticket packages, we offer substantial savings to you: up to 38% off the individual tickets. Combine that with payment plans for a low monthly payment!

CAN I BUY SEASON TICKETS FOR LESS THAN $250?

Absolutely! Our most affordable days of the week to attend are Wednesday and Friday evenings. Five-opera packages on those days start at just $230, less than $50 per opera. Four-opera packages start at just $186 and three-opera packages at $149.
